When Seth Horne first arrived at LaGrange College from Birmingham, Alabama, he knew he wanted a future in sports. Now, as a junior majoring in Sports Management with a minor in Human Resources, he's gaining firsthand experience with one of Major League Baseball's most recognizable organizations: the Atlanta Braves.
As a Hospitality Intern at Truist Park, Seth worked directly with fans during Braves home games, helping create positive experiences throughout the ballpark. His responsibilities include checking tickets, directing guests to attractions and amenities, assisting with private events, and supporting operations in premium group hospitality areas.
Among his favorite experiences has been helping with one of Truist Park's most beloved traditions: allowing close to 5,000 young fans to run the bases after Sunday home games which has made the experience even more rewarding for him.
The internship has also given Seth a front-row seat to unforgettable moments, including dramatic walk-off victories and what he describes as the loudest Fourth of July fireworks show in the ballpark's history.
While the experience has confirmed his passion for the sports industry, Seth says one lesson stands above all others. Reflecting on his journey so far, Seth emphasized the value of experiential learning.
"Get experience, because that is the only way you will get a job in the sports industry," he said.
He believes internships are critical for students looking to enter the sports industry because they provide opportunities to develop professional skills, explore career interests, and build meaningful connections.
The relationships he's built, both on campus and through his internship, have reinforced the importance of networking and professional development.
